Amara is a British Jamaican, Artist Educator and Trainee Art Therapist.
Her personal work explores socio political themes through poetry and illustration. Her educational work focuses on promoting emotional and social wellbeing for children and people with additional needs through experimental and exploratory art making.
Words are Birds is an anthology project between students at Thornhill primary schools and the poet Paul Lyalls and All Change Arts. I had the honour of illustrating and designing the book. You can buy a copy here.
Grandmas Footsteps is a collaborative online story project between the author Patrice Lawrence, Beckfoot Heaton primary school, the National Centre for Atmospheric Science and myself the Illustrator. The story explores concerns surrounding air pollution. I was also able to conduct Zoom session with the students to talk about my career and demonstrate some simple character design tips.

Features paper based activities exploring the themes of tumours and microscopic organisms. I also lead a zoom workshop with home school pupils making the DIY microscopes which feature as an activity. Black Victorians Children’s Activity Booklet was a passion projected inspired by my learning of Prince Alemayehu an Ethiopian prince held as a prisoner of war. The booklet features fun paper based activities on wealthy black Victorians.
